MWRA Inspection Scheduled on June 25th - PLEASE READ
Hello everyone,
We wanted to inform you that the MWRA inspection and water sample collection is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 at 1:00 PM. Please take time in advance to ensure the lab is fully prepared.
What we need from everyone:
Put away all chemicals and solvents in their designated storage locations regularly.
Do not leave any solvent bottles on or near sinks.
Follow the “Sink Use” policy posted at each sink.
Lab Sink Wastewater Disposal Policy
To ensure MWRA compliance and maintain a safe laboratory environment, please adhere to the following:
Do NOT dispose of any chemicals or solvents in sinks, including 70% ethanol, alcohols, or any other chemical solutions.
Only typical 10% bleached cell media waste may be disposed of in designated sinks and flush with clean water.
Check posted signage to confirm whether bleach disposal is allowed. Some sinks are strictly bleach-free and clearly labeled.
Glassware Cleaning Requirements
All glassware must be free of chemical residues before washing in the sink.
Required steps:
Triple-rinse all glassware with water inside the fume hood to remove residual solvents.
Collect all rinsate as chemical waste in the fume hood—do not pour it down the sink.
Only after proper rinsing may glassware be washed in the sink.
